Camping World Customer Service

I like the story because it’s based on your own experience. I would make one important change, though. Rather than making it sound like all Camping World locations provide poor service, focus on your experience and what eventually resolved the problem. That comes across as more balanced and credible.

Our Experience with Camping World

If you’re part of any RV social media group, you’ve probably seen posts from people sharing their experiences with Camping World. Many of those stories involve frustration with customer service after the sale or long delays getting warranty work completed.

Unfortunately, my wife and I have our own story to tell.

We purchased our 2020 Keystone Cougar fifth wheel from the Camping World dealership in Columbus, Minnesota. Throughout the sales process, the staff was attentive, answered our questions, and addressed our concerns. When we completed the purchase, we felt confident we had made the right decision.

We still love our fifth wheel.

Our concerns began on delivery day.

As part of the purchase, we were supposed to receive a comprehensive orientation covering all of the RV’s systems. Unfortunately, the person conducting the walkthrough couldn’t answer many of our questions about how various features worked.

That left us with an uneasy feeling.

Camping World arranged for a second walkthrough, which was somewhat better, but we still left with unanswered questions. In the end, I contacted Keystone directly, and they were able to provide the information we needed.

After our first trip, we discovered a few items that required warranty repairs. That’s when our real frustration began.

We were told the repairs would be completed in about a week.

A week came and went.

Then another.

Phone calls to the dealership produced little information and even less progress. I eventually began stopping in at the service department in person, hoping to get some answers, but that didn’t accomplish much either.

While waiting one day, I noticed a sign on the wall from Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis. It read:

“If you’re not happy, I’m not happy.”

The sign included his office phone number and email address.

When I got home, I wrote a detailed email explaining exactly what had happened, what I had been promised, and why I was frustrated.

The next day, I received a call from someone in Mr. Lemonis’s office.

She asked a few questions to clarify the situation and then, while I was on the phone, contacted the dealership and spoke directly with the service manager’s supervisor. Together, we discussed the situation and agreed on a plan and a completion date that worked for everyone.

The repairs were completed exactly when they promised during that phone call.

A few days later, she called again to make sure everything had been completed to our satisfaction.

We genuinely appreciated her help.

At the same time, I couldn’t help but think that it never should have required intervention from the CEO’s office to get routine warranty work completed.

My Advice

If you’re having difficulty resolving an issue with Camping World through normal channels, don’t be afraid to contact Marcus Lemonis’s customer relations team.

When you do, be professional and factual.

Include:

  • What the problem is.
  • What you were promised.
  • Who you spoke with.
  • Dates and timelines.
  • What resolution you’re seeking.

That approach worked for us, and if we ever encounter a similar situation again, I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to his office.

Final Thoughts

Camping World has thousands of employees and many locations across the country. Customer experiences vary from dealership to dealership, but based on our experience, there is still room for improvement in the company’s customer service process.

Hopefully, when enough customers share their experiences, it encourages the company to continue improving its service after the sale.
