Our First Overnight at a Love’s RV Stop

I’ve been curious about staying overnight at one of Love’s RV Stops for quite some time. A friend and his wife used one on their way home from Florida and spoke very highly of the experience.

On our final leg home from Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Minnesota, we decided to make the trip in two longer driving days instead of our usual 300-mile days. Looking for a convenient overnight stop, I found the Love’s in Cameron, Missouri. It was at about the right distance and, unlike many Love’s locations, it had dedicated RV sites.

I made a reservation online and was even able to choose one of the six available sites. Check-in was simple. We used the confirmation code at the kiosk located near the RV sites, and within minutes we were parked.

The site itself was clean and easy to back into. All of the sites are back-in, but there was plenty of room to maneuver. Everything worked as expected, and the complimentary Wi-Fi was surprisingly fast.

As with anything, there are a few tradeoffs.

The biggest drawback is the noise. Being attached to a busy truck stop means there is vehicle traffic throughout the night, and the security lighting is much brighter than what you’ll find at most campgrounds. If you’re used to quiet, dark campsites, this is definitely a different experience.

The sites are also fairly close together. Even so, another RV pulled in beside us during the evening, and we hardly heard them at all.

One thing I also noticed throughout our trip was fuel pricing. We tow with a diesel truck, so fuel costs matter. At nearly every Love’s we passed, diesel prices were noticeably higher than nearby competitors, sometimes by 20 to 60 cents per gallon. In one case in Florida, a Love’s was 60 cents per gallon higher than a Pilot less than half a mile away. Needless to say, we chose to fuel elsewhere.

On the plus side, the location is hard to beat. It’s right off the interstate, there is a convenience store and restaurant within easy walking distance, and the private showers are included with the RV site. They are cleaned after each use, which was a nice touch. The overnight cost was under $40 with full hookups, making it a good value for a travel day.

Would I stay at a Love’s RV Stop again?

Absolutely.

For those days when the goal is simply to cover miles and get a good night’s rest before getting back on the road, it worked very well. I’ll probably continue to buy my fuel elsewhere, but I wouldn’t hesitate to book another overnight stay at one of their RV locations.
