Good Service Does Exist

If you spend any time reading online RV groups, you’ll quickly notice that service departments receive their share of criticism.

Unfortunately, our first experience after purchasing our fifth wheel wasn’t much different.

We needed some warranty work shortly after taking delivery, and after our first trip we found a few additional issues that needed attention. Getting an appointment took weeks, and once the trailer was in the shop, the repairs took even longer than expected.

After several unsuccessful attempts to get answers, I finally contacted someone higher up in the company. That eventually got things moving, but it also reinforced something I’d already begun to realize.

Whenever possible, I wanted to learn how to maintain and repair our RV myself.

Over the past few years I’ve done exactly that.

Routine maintenance has become one of my priorities because I’d much rather prevent a problem than deal with a breakdown while traveling.

This year we have two major trips planned. One takes us back to Texas, and later we’ll be heading to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

With more than 12,000 miles on our trailer and the wheel bearings and brakes never having been inspected since we purchased it, I decided it was time.

Normally I enjoy doing this type of work myself, but our trailer is stored in an RV storage facility where that kind of maintenance isn’t practical.

It would have been easy to recommend replacing bearings, brakes, or other parts that I couldn’t easily inspect myself. Instead, they completed a thorough inspection and found everything to be in good condition. The only repair needed was replacing one outer grease seal.

That’s the kind of honesty that earns repeat customers.

Good service still exists.

Sometimes you just have to ask around until you find it.
