While browsing one of the RV groups I follow, I came across another photo that made me stop and wonder, “What were they thinking?”

The picture showed a truck carrying a camper that was clearly far too large and heavy for the vehicle.

We’ve all seen combinations like this on the road.

Sometimes they’re almost funny to look at.

Until you think about what could happen.

An overloaded truck isn’t just hard on the suspension and tires. It affects braking, steering, stability, and overall control of the vehicle. Add highway speeds, strong crosswinds, or the need for an emergency maneuver, and a bad situation can become a dangerous one very quickly.

A tire blowout, broken suspension component, or shifting load doesn’t just put the driver at risk.

It puts everyone sharing the road at risk.

Before loading your RV, truck camper, or trailer, take a few minutes to know the numbers.

Know how much your truck is rated to carry.

Know the weight of your camper or trailer.

Know your tire ratings.

Know your axle ratings.

Those numbers aren’t suggestions.

They’re there to help keep you, your family, and everyone around you safe.

None of us is perfect, and we’ve all made mistakes while learning.

This is simply a reminder to think things through before heading down the highway.

The extra few minutes spent checking your weights could prevent a very bad day.
